About a month ago I had a great opportunity to shoot Nikki in her gorgeous gown at the Gundry House in Mineral Point, WI. This is going to be my new favorite way to shoot- to find an amazing location each time! Just check this place out, how beautiful is it?!

I just stumbled across a great blog created by a group of four fabulous photographers in…Canada, I think?

Anyway, this group of photog friends sure look like they have a blast, and this post I’ve linked below proves that their clients know how to live it up, too! This ENTIRE wedding party participated in a day of dress and tux trashing, watersport-style. And wow, the results are phenomenal!

My props to the fearless couple and the ROCKTOGRAPHERS, I absolutely love your work!

TTD and Brides Against Breast Cancer

I found a GREAT post on www.trashthedress.wordpress.com (the old blog- they have since moved to a new website) about how a bride can trash her dress and STILL do good.

A rather common argument against trashing your wedding dress is this: “why wouldn’t you donate your dress to benefit someone less fortunate than you, instead of destroying it for a selfish purpose?” Well, the answer is in this article. According to the writer who spoke with the national director and co-founder of “Brides Against Breast Cancer,” many of the dresses donated to the organization come in dirty. Food, wine, and other kinds of stains are removed by the organization and 90% of the dresses show no signs of having been used!

From now on, my recommendation to the brides who trash their gowns with me will be to donate their gowns to this organization after the shoot.

So there- you can have your TTD session and still do something good with the dress afterwards.

Madison: TRASH YOUR DRESS!

You bought the dress and it was BEAUTIFUL. The wedding dress you had always dreamed of. You relished every minute you got to spend in it, and you’ll always remember the look in his eyes when he saw you the first time. You may have even cried a little when you had to put it back on its hanger when the night was over.

So…now what?

Go ahead and make one more day of memories with that amazing dress. Ask your photographer about a Trash The Dress session, and live it up! Trashing the dress is about creation, not destruction. Sure, you can jump in a pool or a lake or a big old mud puddle if you want, but it’s not a requirement. Most mild dirt can be dry cleaned right out, so don’t let that scare you off.

Or maybe THE DRESS is the perfect prom or formal dress for an occasion you always want to have fond memories of.

Or maybe it wasn’t beautiful. Maybe your best friend from college made you wear a hideous color or a few too many frills for your taste in her version of the perfect wedding. You’ve tried to sell it but you just can’t. You are sick of it taking up room in your closet, but just can’t bring yourself to toss it into the dumpster because you spent a decent amount of money on it.

Whatever the dress, the occasion, the inspiration, or the excuse- give it some thought, and TRASH THE DRESS!
